Mother’s always cook great food for everyone at home, but why not let her rest this Mother’s Day and treat her with amazing delicacies instead. Hence, given below are 5 course meal that you can cook for your darling mother.

1. Peanut Cucumber Salad :

Start with a healthy peanut cucumber salad. Made up of fresh ingredients like onions, tomatoes and cucumbers combined with peanuts and a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice make it a perfect appetizer to begin with

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup roasted peanuts
  • 2 finely chopped tomatoes,
  • 1 peeled and finely chopped cucumber,
  • 1 finely chopped onion,
  • 1 finely chopped green chilli,
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Method of preparation:

In a bowl, mix roasted peanuts, finely chopped tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and green chilli. Add salt to taste, chaat masala powder, lemon juice and toss the salad well.


2. Ragda Patties :

Ragda patties is a delight to cook for Mother’s Day. A spicy white peas curry with potato patties, tangy chutney, crisp sev and fresh onion and coriander over it is a flavorful dish that every mother will love.

Ingredients :

For Pattice :

  • 4 boiled and peeled medium sized potato,
  • 4 tbsp or ¼ cup washed flattened rice (Poha)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¾ tsp red chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • Oil

Other Ingredient :

  • 3 tsp tamarind chutney,
  • 3 tsp green chutney,
  • salt to taste,
  • ¼ finely chopped onion,
  • ¼ finely chopped tomato,
  • Cumin powder,
  • Chaat masala,
  • Red chilli powder,
  • Sev
  • finely chopped coriander leaves

Method for Preparation:

  • In a pressure cooker cook soaked white peas with water, turmeric, chili powder and salt for 4 whistles. Once the pressure releases, mash the peas and keep it aside.
  • Then mash the boiled potatoes and add poha, turmeric, cumin powder, chaat masala, red chili powder and salt. Mash it well and prepare pattice.
  • In a frying pan shallow fry the pattice until it turns golden brown and crisp.
  • Now pour the prepared ragda in a plate and place the pattice. Pour in the green chutney and tamarind chutney onto it. Sprinkle red chili powder, cumin powder, chaat masala and salt.
  • Garnish with freshly and finely chopped onions, tomato, sev and coriander leaves.

3. Lemon Rice :

Lemon rice is an authentic dish with flavours of lemon juice, curry leaves, turmeric, chillies and mustard seeds. It’s an easy recipe and perfect for lunch.

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup cooked basmati rice
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 cup curry leaves
  • 1 whole red chilli
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal

Method for Preparation:

  • In a pan heat the oil and add mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
  • Then add curry leaves, asafoetida, ginger, whole red chilli, chana dal and urad dal. Saute them well
  • After the seeds begin to splutter, add peanuts, turmeric powder and rice. Mix it well.
  • Lastly add salt and lemon juice to the rice. Mix well and serve hot.

4. Mango Lassi :

Who wouldn’t love Mango Lassi? Creamy Mango Lassi made up of sweet mangoes and yogurt is a delectable drink to relish. Since it’s also summer, the season of mangoes it’s an ideal drink to surprise your mom with this Mother’s Day. Here’s the recipe,

Ingredients :

  • Mango pulp, 250 ml
  • Yogurt, 240 ml
  • 1/2 cup cold milk
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • Saffron strands to garnish

Method for Preparation:

  • a large bowl, add fresh mango pulp and yogurt.
  • Now add cold milk or water to thin out the lassi along with sugar and cardamom powder.
  • Lastly, blend everything in a blender until smooth.

Pour the mango lassi into a glass and garnish with saffron strands.


5. Gulab Jamun :

At last enjoy the soft and delicious Gulab jamun along with your mom. It’s a classic sweet you can make easily at home. Let’s get started

Ingredients :

For Sugar Syrup :

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For Gulab Jamun :

  • 9 tbsp milk powder
  • 3½ tbsp Maida
  • 1 tbsp Sooji
  • Baking soda
  • 1 tsp clarified butter or ghee
  • 4-5 tbsp warm milk
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Method for Preparation:

Sugar Syrup :

  • Take 1 cup of sugar in a pan and add 1 cup of water. Let it boil.
  • Simmer for 4 minutes until the sugar syrup becomes sticky.
  • Now add cardamom powder and lemon juice to stop crystallization process. Cover and keep aside.

Gulab Jamun :

  • In a large mixing bowl add milk powder, maida, rava, a pinch of baking soda, ghee, lemon juice and mix well.
  • Now slowly add milk and knead well. Knead to a smooth and soft dough.
  • Then make small balls by greasing your hands with ghee.
  • In a low flame, heat the ghee and when the ghee is moderately hot, fry the jamuns. Fry it on a low flame until golden brown.
  • Then in a hot sugar syrup place the jamuns
  • Cover the lid and rest for 2 hours.
