Process to Make Matar ki Chaat

  • In a pan, combine green peas and water, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until peas are tender.
  • Turn off the heat and drain the peas thoroughly before transferring them to a bowl.
  • In a pan, heat the oil until it is hot enough, then add the cooked peas and fry them for a few minutes.
  • Mix in the salt, red chilli powder, black pepper. Toss the fried peas in a mixing dish now.
  • Chop the onion, coriander, tomatoes, green chillies, chaat masala, coriander-cumin powder, and amchur powder and combine them in a bowl.
  • Squeeze the lemon and gradually mix it in.
  • Place the mixture on a serving platter and evenly distribute it. Spread the tamarind and green chutney equally over the top and garnish with coriander leaves & sev.
  • Your Matar ki Chaat is now ready. Serve immediately.

Is it okay if I use frozen peas?

Yes, simply defrost or rinse them in hot water before using them in the recipe.

Is it possible to prepare this chaat ahead of time?

Cook the green peas ahead of time and combine everything shortly before serving. Otherwise, water oozes from it. Reheat the peas before assembling everything if you want to serve it warm.

Is Matar Chaat a vegan option?

YES! It's a plant-based snack.

This Matar ki Chaat goes really well with a cup of ginger tea or coffee when served warm. This dish can also be served during breakfast. The addition of sev or bhujia on top will provide more crunch and flavour, but it is entirely optional.
